ILSI India is a regional branch of International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI) which has headquarters in Washington DC. ILSI India coordinates activities and provides scientific inputs and assistance to the South Asian Region which includes Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka.
ILSI India activities primarily focus on local and regional issues and involve leading national and international experts in the deliberations. ILSI India has given special and close attention to critical public health issues like food safety, under nutition, overweight and obesity, bone health, water quality management.

The Review points out that though consumption of foods with healthy microbes is not new to the world, but preparing novel products with clinically tested Probiotics is more specific and reliable to give desired health attribute. While Probiotic foods are generally dairy based they can be used in raw materials like Cereals, Pulses, Fruits, Vegetables, Tubers, Fish and Meat.

This review discusses that probiotics and the microbiome are considered as a blueprint of good health, unique to every human. They have well-known and established health benefits like reduced antibiotic associated diarrhoea and colic symptoms, eczema, necrotising enterocolitis, acute paediatric infections like diahorrea and upper respiratory tract infections; probiotics that are considered to be beneficial for maintaining mental well-being as well. This new branch of disease management is now termed as Nutritional Neuroscience and these beneficial gut bacteria are referred to as Psychobiotics.
